🌍❄️ Why is Iceland Green and Greenland Icy? 🌿🧊
Ever wondered why Iceland is surprisingly green and Greenland is mostly covered in ice? The story goes back to the Vikings. Iceland got its chilly name from Flóki Vilgerðarson, who climbed a mountain and saw snow and ice dominating the landscape. Meanwhile, Erik the Red, exiled from Iceland, sailed west and discovered Greenland. To attract settlers to this harsh land, he called it “Greenland” — a clever marketing trick to make the icy island seem more inviting.
Geographically, Iceland sits in the North Atlantic Ocean and boasts dramatic landscapes of volcanoes, hot springs, geysers, and waterfalls — it’s greener than you’d expect. Greenland, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, is the world’s largest island, with 80% of its surface covered by ice, holding about 8% of the planet’s freshwater.
So, the names don’t exactly match reality — but they tell stories of adventure, survival, and clever Viking strategy. 🌊🏔️

Sometimes you meet with an old fish, mature, heavy set, battle scarred, washed out colours, a real river relic that could be as old as 40+ years old. 🤯
These kind of fish often have thick rubbery fins from years of multiple migrations and spawning. These beautiful slow growing long lived creatures deserve the utmost respect to ensure their future, every fish big or small, old or new 🐟
We handle with care and keep their time out of the water to a few seconds at a time when snapping a picture or 2. As long as they are given plenty of time to recover and get oxygen passing through their gills. 📸

Yesterday after traveling to Ilulissat we have sailed to Qaarsut for pick up Taekwondo team from Uummannaq. When it is too dark helicopter can’t fly due to the new regulations. But our boat is well equipped with lights and navigation equipment ⚓️👍 just a way of life when you are sailor ⚓️
