This was one of the highlights of our time in Ilulissat, and it cost us absolutely nothing…
The Yellow Trail is a 3km-long hiking route that loops around a rocky headland with majestic views looking out across the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord and the iceberg-speckled waters of Disko Bay.
Go at sunset, when everything is bathed in a golden glow, and it’s absolutely awe-inspiring. You can start at the southwestern side of town or at the Icefjord Centre, and the whole thing takes around 45 minutes to an hour to complete (depending on how often you stop to marvel at the incredible panoramas). There are some fairly steep sections along the way, but even in winter with lots of snow and ice we had no trouble navigating it despite the brutally cold temperatures.
There’s a small fee to pay when hiking in this area in the summer months, but it’s totally worthwhile. And if you hike clockwise, starting from the Icefjord Centre, Asimut Cafe is the perfect place to finish off with a drink and a bite to eat before wandering down the hill and back into Ilulissat (see our previous reel for more details on this).

For many of us, this is more than a view. It’s home.
A place that shapes how you think, how you listen, and how you come to understand the world.
Growing up here, space teaches patience, and stillness feels entirely natural.

Summer in East Greenland ☀️
Midnight sun, quiet fjords, icebergs drifting like sculptures, and hikes where the only sound is the wind and your own footsteps. This is the wild side of Greenland—raw, peaceful, and unbelievably beautiful.
If you’re dreaming of real adventure, untouched nature, and moments that don’t feel crowded or rushed, East Greenland in summer should be on your list.
Would you travel this far north for a summer like this? If so, check this page for inspirations for excursions: https://arcticexcursions.com 🌍✨

Watch out for Greenlandic sleddogs🤭
One of our guests had his camera “stolen” during an interview with Joorut from dogslediceacademy, five-time Greenlandic champion in dog sledding 🐕🇬🇱
In the middle of the interview, one very curious dog decided to grab the camera and run off with it. And we didn’t notice before in the evening.
The best part? The dog accidentally pressed record… and when we finally found the camera, we discovered the whole adventure had been filmed 😆🎥
Luckily, the mystery was solved quickly — we found the thief!
And good news: it turned out to be our neighbor’s puppy, not one of our dogs 🤣

Camera stolen by a sleddog🫣
Our guests had their camera stolen by a sled dog and we spent hours searching for it in the middle of the night. Luckily we found it – and the dogs hit record!!! 🤣
Gladly we discovered on the footage that it wasn’t one our 31 sleddogs, but two of our neighbours dogs.

Ilulissat is renowned for its high sled dog population, often cited as having around 3,000 to 3,500 Greenland Dogs for a human population of approximately 4,500–5,000, maintaining a close 1:1 or 1:2 ratio. These working dogs are vital for local winter transportation and fishing, with most kept in 2-3 dedicated areas in town. The dogs are authentic Greenland Dogs, a hardy, non-pet working breed used for hunting and travel and sleep outside or in small shelters.
Shoutout to lukefruhling who had to tell me that Verstappen (in addition to being a fine greenlandic husky) is more commonly renowned as a famous F1 driver 😅 The more you know…

Kangerlussuaq is a settlement in western Greenland located at the head of the fjord of the same name. The town and airport were built as a U.S. base during World War II, but transitioned to a Greenlandic settlement in 1992. Kangerlussuaq Airport was Greenland`s primary air transport hub until the rebuilt and expanded Nuuk Airport opened in 2024.
The settlement’s economy and population of 399 is almost entirely reliant on the airport and tourist industry. It is also noteworthy as the only town in Greenland which is not located on the proper ocean.
The town is literally a small set of buildings around the airport. 3 of the hotels are either attached to the airport or accessible by a 3 min walk from the terminal. Sadly, due to weather delays and flight cancelations we only ended up staying one night here and missed a few activities but still got a chance to experience its rugged beauty.

Travel companies are redrawing the map in 2026 by betting on new destinations and rolling out new trips to places that may not have been registered on mainstream itineraries a year ago.
What links them is timing. From conservation-led safaris and reopened archaeological sites to nomadic cultures and near-pristine marine ecosystems, these destinations still feel refreshingly new, before crowds, hype, or overdevelopment can catch up.
